Not only do seasoned experts from the field meet at the DGPPN Congress but also more than 1,000 medical students, students in their practical year and junior doctors. The congress offers young professionals a special programme that includes workshops, symposia, meet-the-expert sessions, lectures and discussion forums. Hospital visits will allow young psychiatrists to experience psychiatry close up. The excursions are free, but registration is required.
The driving force behind the exciting programme for young professionals is Generation PSY, the DGPPN initiative for young professionals that aims to stimulate young people’s interest in the field of psychiatry and psychotherapy. The DGPPN started this initiative because of the many prejudices and stereotypes still surrounding the profession of psychiatry. Generation PSY is doing away with these preconceptions and showing that psychiatry is one of the most fascinating disciplines in medicine. The field is in desperate need of young talent in order to avoid serious gaps in care in the future.
Generation PSY offers a special package of services that is aligned with the various stages of specialist training in psychiatry and psychotherapy. It includes, for example, summer schools, a mentoring programme and intensive courses for the specialist examination and, last but not least, a programme at the annual DGPPN Congress specially designed for young professionals: experienced professionals report from their field of work, illustrate specific cases and describe career paths. Most of the formats are interactive. Newcomers to the congress will be given an introduction on the first day.
